the OPP
Motorists are warned to be extra careful while driving in the region.
Collisions with animals are common at this time of year, however deer seem to be the main cause.
With the number of collisions reported to the OPP over the past couple of months, deer are becoming more and more responsible.
Motorists should take the following precautions to help avoid collisions with animals:
•use eye lead time and be aware when you are in an area that has wildlife, especially if signs indicating an animal crossing are posted;
•do not overdrive your headlights (this will allow you to see an animal and stop in time to avoid colliding with it); and
•when animals are observed ahead, slow down until safely past them and search for a second animal close behind.
The deer seem to be just as active in the daytime hours as well as in the dark.
Damage to a vehicle and its occupants can be serious—and very costly.
