Waste day coming up

Staff

Need something to do over the long weekend?
How about cleaning out the basement and garage of all those old paint cans?
You’ll get your chance to dispose of them, as well as any other hazardous materials, at the Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Day set for next Saturday (Sept. 6) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Public Works yard.
As in past years, residents from municipalities and First Nations across Rainy River District are urged to gather up their hazardous waste and bring them to be properly disposed of.
Acceptable items include aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, oil containers and filters, toxics, mercury devices, paints and coatings, and pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides.
Pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, fluorescents, reactives, and corrosives also will be accepted.
Last year, a total of 236 cars lined up to drop off their dangerous waste, which was collected by Miller Environmental Corp. of Winnipeg.
