‘Walleyedol’ seeing slim numbers

With the annual Emo Walleye Classic set to go next week, organizers still are seeking contestants for the “Walleyedol” singing competition, which is scheduled to take place May 26 and again May 27 for the three finalists.
With just half-a-dozen entries as of Monday, Angler Services director Colleen Vennechenko is surprised by the lack of interest.
“Several [people] said they were going to participate but they haven’t signed up yet,” she noted. “I have no know idea why. I really thought there would have been more entries.”
Competitors must be 16 years or older, live in Rainy River District or in Koochiching County, Mn., and pay a non-refundable entry fee of $20.
While Vennechenko said “Walleyedol” will go ahead with the competitors who already have signed up, she hopes more will register.
“It’s always more fun with more people,” she remarked, adding if they don’t have a full line-up of competitors, each may sing two songs on the first night instead of saving the second song for the finalists’ round.
The “Walleyedol” winner will receive $500. The first runner-up will get $100 while the second runner-up earns $50.
“Right now the chances are pretty good to win some money,” Vennechenko said.
