W.I. to host luncheon

Celebrate Heritage Day at the Emo Museum by attending the District Women’s Institute luncheon of hot dishes on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The usual craft and baking sales also will be held, and there will be a door prize up for grabs.
In related news, the Bergland W.I. is starting a new quilting course instructed by Marla from the Ben Franklin store in Baudette. The “Crazy Nine Patch” will begin Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Bergland School.
This past Saturday (Jan. 24), W.I. members planned functions for the annual district conference in May.
The area convention in September takes in all W.I. from Thunder Bay west to the Manitoba border. It is Rainy River District’s turn to host it this year, and it will be held in Bergland.

For friendship and a fun time, come to the Valentine’s Tea slated for Friday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton seniors’ centre. It is being staged by the C.W.L.

Off Lake Covenant Church is hosting a Valentine’s social on Sunday, Feb. 15. There will be a potluck luncheon after the church service, followed by fellowship.

The Our Lady of the Way parish supper will be held Sunday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. in the parish hall. Donations for the penny table would be greatly appreciated.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 13-18 (those 12 and under are free). Tickets may be purchased from parishioners or the church office.

Congratulations to Joe and Pat Dorie on their 50th wedding anniversary, which was celebrated Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Emo Legion. Dancing was to the music of Bill Wepruk, Glen Hart, and Richard McKinnon.

Condolences to the Hagen family on the sudden passing of Allan Hagen, who grew up in Blackhawk but recently was living in Fort Frances. Memorial services were held yesterday (Jan. 27) at the Off Lake Covenant Church.
Sympathy also to the family of Esther Sander of Meadowside Manor in Stratton. She passed away last Thursday (Jan. 22) at the Emo Health Centre.

And condolences to the Sisco and Nielson families on the passing of Bernice Sisco. She and her husband, Paul, grew up back here in North Branch and Dewart so they were part of the community for many years.
