W.I. Museum in great shape

A good sized crowd was on hand at the Women’s Institute Museum in Emo on Friday afternoon. Despite threatening skies, everyone in attendance enjoyed coffee, pie and friendly conversation.
The new displays in all three buildings were also open for viewing. The members of the Institute have done an excellent job fixing up their various rooms and displaying artifacts from across the district. Of special interest, are rooms dedicated to the old Barwick School and the Dance Fire.
The local Women’s Institute, which has been in existence for 40 years, has accumulated an amazing array of artifacts from across the Rainy River District, some of which date back 100 years to the early settlers of the area.
Anyone wishing to visit the refurbished museum buildings can do so during normal business hours from Monday to Friday. All funds raised at the coffee and pie sale will go to the maintenance of the museum.

On July 29, the OPP, the Treaty Three Police, the Best Start Hub and the Emo-LaVallee-Chapple Healthy Community Coalition jointly hosted a bike rodeo for interested youth at the tennis courts in Emo.
Officer Cst. Anne McCoy, with the help of the OPP’s summer students, Tirzah Keffer and Crystal Lambertson, organized and conducted the rodeo. The 15 participants had their bikes inspected, were shown how to wear their helmet correctly and were reminded about how to ride safely in order to avoid accidents.
A riding course was set up on the tennis courts and the riders were tested on their ability to control their bicycles at the various stations. A barbecue, provided by the Best Start Hub, was held following the rodeo.
Facing painting was an activity enjoyed by the younger participants. All riders were given prizes for taking part in the program, while those achieving the best scores received special recognition. Despite a brief rain shower, everyone enjoyed the bike rodeo and learned a great deal about keeping their bicycle in good working order and about how to ride properly.

The Emo Spray Park committee is looking for volunteers. The committee will be running the bingo at the Rainy River Valley Agricultural Fall Fair, but they need people who would like to help.
On Friday, they plan on operating from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturday they would like to run from noon–4 p.m. If you would like to help the committee raise money for the park by being a bingo caller or card seller, for a two–hour shift on either day, please give Frances Flook a call at 482-1548.

About 70 people showed up Thursday evening at Calvary Baptist Church to enjoy great hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings, God’s beautiful sunshine, a service of worship and biblical preaching, and then some ice cream cones afterwards.
The congregation is planning another barbecue and service on Sept. 3. Watch for further information and posters around town.
