W.I. hosting spring tea

The Rainy River District Women’s Institute is hosting its annual “Spring Tea” on Friday, May 20 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo.
There will be soup, sandwiches, desserts, and coffee/tea, as well as bake tables and a door prize.
Admission is $7, with proceeds going to support the W.I. Museum in Emo.
Come out for a great lunch, meet with friends, and support the women in preserving and presenting the history of the district.

A gigantic garage/flea market will be held this Saturday (May 14) from 8 a.m.-noon at the Fort Frances Curling Club.
Anyone interested in renting a table can do so for $20.

There will be a “Kick Off to Summer” raffle at the Emo Health Centre, with first prize being two camp chairs, a portable gas stove, two beach towels, and a cooler combo kit.
Second prize is a Karaoke party machine.
Tickets cost $1 each, which can be purchased at the hospital. Proceeds to support activity projects for Emo hospital residents/patients.

The Township of Emo has declared Saturday, June 4 as “Community Garage Sale Day.”
Anyone interested in setting up their own garage sale is responsible for their own advertising. For more info, call the municipal office at 482-2378.

Sturgeon Creek School will hold its annual “Spring Tea” on Thursday, May 12 starting at 1 p.m. in the school gym.
Come out to watch the students perform, as well as enjoy some desserts and other refreshments.

High school students in need of community hours in order to graduate are invited to sign up as a volunteer for this year’s Emo Walleye Classic (May 26-28).

There are several books by local writers available across the district. Gloria Alcock’s book, “Nurse at the Top of the World,” can be purchased through the Emo Public Library, online from http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com, or by contacting Alcock directly in Kenora.
Meanwhile, Frank Maraj’s second book, entitled “Snapshots II: Navigating the University Years,” is available for $25 at various locations across the district.
