The Rainy River District Women’s Institute will be hosting its annual pie social Friday, July 22 from noon-3 p.m. at the W.I. Museum in Emo.
They will be serving pie and coffee, as well as selling whole pies for those who wish to take some home.
The women always can use volunteers and donations for this event, with all proceeds going towards the upkeep of the museum buildings.
If anyone has questions, they can get in touch with Sheri at the museum.
In related news, the temporary gallery at the W.I. Museum will feature Emo Speedway memorabilia this summer, as well as a private collection of Canadian First Nations’ art.
There will be stock cars on site the day of the pie social.
It is free to visit the museum, but donations are accepted.
Both adults and children will get so much out of visiting the Pioneer Museum. Visitors from outside the district are amazed at the abundance of artifacts the staff has accumulated over the years.
Everyone is invited out on July 22 to sample some excellent pie, support the museum, visit with friends, and check out the various displays.

The Borderland Quarter Horse Association’s annual show will be held Aug. 5-7 at the Emo Fairgrounds.
The show, which starts at 8 a.m. each day, will feature Halter and Showmanship, Western and English riding classes, Multiple Futurity/Stakes classes, and Two Walk/Trot Charity classes.
All proceeds from this event will go to the “Community Chest” in Fort Frances.

A number of free workshops are scheduled at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, including an ancestry one which will take place Wednesday, July 20 from 6-8 p.m.
This workshop will provide an overview of conducting genealogical research through the Ancestry Library Edition, focusing on the new interface and the Enhanced Image Viewer.
Another workshop on PC maintenance may be of interest to computer users. It will take place Wednesday, July 27 from 6-8 p.m.
Participants will learn how to speed up their start-up, update their software easily, defragment their hard drive, remove unnecessary temporary files, and use a firewall and antivirus.

A reminder that the summer hours for the Emo Public Library are Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-5 p.m., Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursdays from 1-7 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The library is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
