Two U.S. men die

From the OPP

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday, members of the Rainy River District detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a male who was in distress and receiving CPR.

Officers attended the scene on Saganaga Lake near the Cache Bay Ranger Station.

First responders from the Grand Marais Sheriff’s department also attended due to the proximity of the incident to the United States.

Craig Sicard, 71, of Minnetonka, Mn. was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The death is not being investigated as suspicious.

Meanwhile, on June 13, officers from the Red Lake/Ear Falls detachments of the OPP received a report of an overdue fisherman on Gullrock Lake just outside the Municipality of Red Lake.

Officers commenced a search immediately without success.

The search continued with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) and the OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT).

On Sunday, the missing person was located by members of the USRU team.

The male has been identified as Douglas Massie, 51, of Jefferson City, Mo.
