Two new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
Kenora Fire #58 was caused by lightning in the southwest corner of Whitefish Bay on Lake of the Woods.
At 0.3 hectares in size, it was listed as “not under control” at last report.
Kenora Fire #57, meanwhile, was a short-lived fire start near Red Deer Lake.
It since has been declared “out.”

The fire of note in the region is Red Lake Fire #38, which has grown to 2,212 hectares in size as it burns away from the far north community of North Spirit Lake (located 15 km to the northwest of the blaze).
An air attack team has been assigned to this fire in an effort to get it under control.
