The local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary held its monthly meeting May 13, with 37 members in attendance.
The charter was draped in memory of Jane McLeod, who served 63 continuous years as an auxiliary member.
Rest in peace, our little pie lady. You will be missed.
Diana Kangas and Jeanette Easton were initiated into the auxiliary by President Alfreda Easton and welcomed in the usual manner.
Easton also installed Jane Hayes as co-entertainment and Christina McDougall as co-secretary.
Sylvia Gunderson installed Leslie Bell as Deputy District 7 Commander L.A.
Pat Cupp did a wonderful job at “Veterans’ Night.” Everyone had a very enjoyable evening.
Our club delivered Meals on Wheels in April and May.
In other news, the auxiliary will be assisting the branch to put flags on the veterans’ graves on May 28-29.
On district Decoration Day (Saturday, May 30), a service at the cenotaph will be held and a light lunch served afterwards.
A surprise kitchen inspection was done by the food service department of the Northwestern Health Unit and we passed with flying colours (we have one of the cleanest kitchens he has seen).
Plans, meanwhile, are in the works for a team of 20 ladies (“The Rocking Grannies”) that participate in the annual “Relay For Life” coming up on June 27 here.
We will be sending six accredited delegates to a convention being held in Winnipeg on June 20-23.
We hope everyone comes out to enjoy our spring tea this Saturday (May 23) from 2-4 p.m. upstairs at the Legion, with admission being $4.
There will be desserts, tea, coffee, and juice, as well as a penny table.
Our monthly supper will be held Friday, May 29 upstairs at the Legion, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
The menu will feature pork cutlets and all the trimmings, along with home-baked pies—all for $15/plate.

As well, the 50/50 “Joker Poker” must go that night!
The auxiliary’s next meeting will be held Wednesday, June 10, starting with a potluck at 6 p.m. and then the meeting at 7 p.m.
All members are welcome to come out and enjoy the evening.
The attendance draw was won by Clara Stainke while the birthday draw for May was won by Gloria Bergner.
