Two incumbent reeves lost their re-election bid in Monday’s municipal election in Rainy River District.
In Alberton, challenger Mike Hammond was elected reeve, taking 153 votes compared to 90 for incumbent John Milling.
Newcomers also led the way in the race for council, with Barb Cournoyer (198) and Louis G. Collier (192) garnering the most votes Monday.
Alberton council will be rounded out by incumbents Michael Ford (172) and Doug Mitchell (166). Missing out on a seat was Cheryl McCallum (100).
Meanwhile, there may be a recount in La Vallee as challenger Emily Watson beat incumbent Ken McKinnon by just six votes in the reeve race there Monday.
Watson garnered 145 votes while McKinnon netted 139.
The new La Vallee council will be made up of Len McCormick (168 votes), Jim Belluz (166), Freeda Carmody (158), and Dale Stamarski (131).
Rounding out the candidates for council were Tom Morrish (126), Rod Storey (123), and Rick Seidel (116).
In Rainy River,
In the race for the seat on the Rainy River District School Board, incumbent Ron McAlister was re-elected with 392 votes, edging out challenger Lisa Armstrong (364).
Crystal Lindal was a distant third (76 votes).
Acclaimed to sit on the Rainy River District School Board were Martin Darrah (Alberton-La Vallee), Margaret Heyens (Chapple-Emo), and Judy Eluik (Atikokan).
