(RED LAKE, ON) – On March 3, officers from the Red Lake detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of officers from Kenora Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and Kenora CSCU conducted an investigation into cocaine trafficking.
A 53 year-old woman from McKenzie Island, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Codeine contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
A second 53-year-old woman of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
- Possession of Proceeds of Property obtained by Crime under $5000 contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Possession of a Prohibited Weapon contrary to Section 92(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
A quantity of cocaine, codeine, Canadian and U.S. currency and a prohibited weapon were seized at the time of arrest. The approximate street value of the seizure is $13,000.
Both women were released on an Undertaking to appear in Kenora court on April 2, 2020 to answer to the charges.
