From the OPP
On Saturday, May 25, two members of the Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a vehicle stop in the area of First Street East at Williams Avenue in the Town of Fort Frances.
The officer commenced an investigation into a Highway Traffic Act offence, and subsequently arrested the driver.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle which resulted in the location of approximately 58 grams of methamphetamine, packaged for sale (valued at approximately $12,000 street value); a quantity of hydromorphone; ammunition; and a prohibited firearm.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Dryden man has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:
•Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm / ammunition, contrary to section 95(b),
•Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon, contrary to Section 94,
•Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm contrary to section 92(1); and
•Adult Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 91(1).
He was further charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act:
•Trafficking in Schedule I Substance, Methamphetamines, contrary to section 5(1); and
•Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2).
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old Dryden man has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:
•Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, contrary to section 403(1)(d);
•Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 91(1);
•Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, contrary to section 92(1);
•Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon contrary to Section 94;
•Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition contrary to section 95(b);
•Possession of Firearm or Ammunition, contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1);
•Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3); and
8. Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, contrary to section 94.
He was further charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act:
•Trafficking in Schedule I Substance — Methamphetamines, contrary to section 5(1),
•Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2).
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Fort Frances woman has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:
•Fail to Comply with Undertaking contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code;
•Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm contrary to section 91(1);
•Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm contrary to section 92(1);
•Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition contrary to section 95(b); and
•Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted Weapon contrary to section 94;
She was further charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:
•Trafficking in Schedule I Substance– Methamphetamines contrary to section 5(1); and
•Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Traffickin– Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2).
All three individuals appeared in WASH court on May 25, 2019 and were being held in custody pending their next court appearance last Thursday at the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice.
