Trappers meet in Dryden

Brian Love

Aug. 23-25 saw a delegation of Rainy River District trappers travel to Dryden to participate in the Provincial Fur Harvesting Convention and Rendezvous.
The event was hosted by the Ontario Fur Managers Federation and the Dryden Trappers Council.
The rendezvous was held at the Eagles Landing Convention Centre, which featured excellent facilities.
The convention coincided with a number of other community events which made for a great weekend for the whole family.
Members of the Rainy River District Trapping Council participated in youth challenges, a four-person adult challenge competition, an information booth, and logistical support of the host council.
Participation and support of the provincial rendezvous was one of the four goals of the local council for the 2011-12 season.
The commitment of members Colin and Tasha Johnson, Pat and Trevor Mills, Dale and Fern Ossachuk, Frank and Donna King, Rob Brandrick, and Don Hyatt made invaluable contributions to the success of this provincial event.
The continued wise and sustainable harvest of renewable resources, and the promotion of young people in outdoor pursuits, is something we are all commitment to.
