Thunderbolts win Emo tourney

Colin Kaemingh was the hero, scoring unassisted in the dying seconds of the game to give the Emo Thunderbolts a 4-3 win over the Kentucky Colonels (Fort Frances) in the ‘A’ final of a PeeWee tournament in Emo last weekend.
Tim Sharp scored 15 seconds apart in the first period to put the Thunderbolts ahead early, then Ryan Kaemingh (assisted by Sharp) made it 2-0 in the second.
But the Colonels stormed back in the third on goals by Michael Jourdain, Dakota Sisco (Justin Rose), and Jason Rose to set the stage for Kaemingh’s heroics just before the buzzer.
The Thunderbolts had finished atop Pool ‘A’ with eight points, winning all their round-robin games. The Colonels were tops in Pool ‘B’ with six points thanks to two wins and a pair of ties.
Meanwhile, the ‘B’ final between IBEW (Fort Frances) and Baudette—who had finished second in their respective pools)—was just as exciting as the ‘A’ showdown.
In the end, Baudette skated away with a narrow 3-2 win.
After a scoreless first period, Braden Beller (Adam Nelson) tallied at 5:04 of the second to pub Baudette up 1-0.
IBEW bounced back a minute later on Brendan Cawston’s tally, but Baudette regained their one-goal lead about a minute later on Brandon Brigham’s marker from Beller.
Beller (Nelson/Brigham) then notched the eventual game-winner about a minute after that.
IBEW did not lie down and die, however, as Steven Romaniuk (Robert Ellis) blinked the light with a minute left on the clock. But that was as close as the Fort Frances crew could come.
Finally, the ‘C’ final produced another close contest between the Emo Cobras and Lions (Fort Frances).
After a scoreless first, the Cobras struck at 8:26 of the second when Kurtis Hill (Brock Jonassen/Alan Mutz) hit the twine.
Hill (Devon Ball/Keith McTavish) netted his second of the game in the third before James Saunders (unassisted) tallied to ice the 3-0 win.
Round-robin action on Friday saw the Cobras beat the Firemen (Fort Frances) 3-1, IBEW double the Lions 4-2, the Thunderbolts blank Green’s (Fort Frances) 4-0, and Baudette dump the Firemen 5-0.
The Thunderbolts nipped Kenora Taggs 3-2, the Cobras tied the Colonels 2-2, IBEW edged Green’s 1-0, the Lions beat Taggs 3-1, and the Colonels dumped Baudette 6-2.
On Saturday, the Cobras tied Baudette 1-1, IBEW blanked Taggs 2-0, the Thunderbolts dumped the Lions 6-2, the Colonels topped the Firemen 8-3, and Green’s edged the Lions 3-2.
The Thunderbolts shut out IBEW 5-0, the Cobras knotted the Colonels 1-1; Taggs nipped Greens 1-0, and Baudette dumped the Firemen 7-1.
