It’s time to nominate a favourite business for the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce annual Business Excellence Awards. Nominations are now open in numerous categories.

“We’re really trying to encapsulate all of the amazing stories that we have here in our business community through those award nominations, which will remain open until the end of February,” said Charla Robinson, Chamber president. She added that when someone nominates an entrepreneur or business, a chance is given to win a trip for two to anywhere Porter Airlines flies, courtesy of Maintair Aviation.

“The winners receive a physical award that they can display in their business after they win,” she said. “The six weeks between when the nominations roll out and when the event happens is a great way for all the businesses that are nominated to be recognized.”

She added that could amount to more than 80 different businesses being recognized, all receiving profiles and recognition for their work in the community and within their business.

“Businesses need to be recognized for the work that they’re doing and it’s also a way to acknowledge those businesses that you work with regularly, or for the excellent service you receive as a regular patron, or by the way their work is making a change in the community,” Robinson said.

The Quality of Life award recognizes business contributions that are impacting people’s quality of life while the Looking Good award speaks to investments that are making the community look better.

“There are so many businesses that are spending significant dollars to upgrade their facilities, to make them more energy efficient, more accessible and just to look better.”

She said this is a good way to show appreciation and to help a business be able to tell its story about what it is doing.

“There are so many amazing businesses, and sometimes it’s hard for a business to break through the noise to tell their story, so this is one more way to help amplify the story of some of the really important work that they’re doing,” she said.

Winners will be announced at a gala event on May 14 at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition Coliseum. Making a nomination and registering for the gala event can be done online at tbchamber.ca.
