Three other planes crash

Saturday was a bad day for flying across Northwestern Ontario, with three other plane accidents happening in the area.
Two of the three occurred near Atikokan, including one that involved a privately-owned Cessna 180 trying to take off from Steep Rock Lake just before noon.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said the pilot made two attempts to take off. On the second one, he was flying into the wind over an embankment between two lakes when heavy turbulence pushed him down into the tree line.
The pilot and two passengers escaped with only minor abrasions but the plane was wrecked.
Three other people also suffered minor injuries Saturday when a single-engine plane owned by Eva Lake Resort had to make an emergency landing on the lake shortly after it took off.
The pilot and two passengers were all recovered safely from the water, Atikokan OPP said.
The third crash happened near Sioux Lookout around 12:50 p.m. when a float plane owned by Matt’s Air Service is believed to have clipped a hydro line while flying from Slate Falls First Nation to Sioux Lookout.
The plane crashed into the bush about 1.5 km short of its landing site on Pelican Lake.
Sioux Lookout OPP found the pilot, the lone occupant of the plane, uninjured at 2:15 p.m.
