Three more fires sparked in region

Three new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by late yesterday afternoon.
Fort Frances Fire #13 was discovered late in the day Sunday and actioned by a FireRanger crew yesterday morning.
The fire, located on a small island on Pickerel Lake in Quetico Provincial Park, was listed as “not under control” at last report.
Sioux Lookout Fire #13 was another late-evening discovery Sunday at Ningewance Bay on Kejick Bay Island.
Four FireRanger crews were dispatched to the blaze, which was burning close to the community on the Lac Seul First Nation.
It was declared “out” by early yesterday afternoon.
Nipigon Fire #6, meanwhile, was reported around 4:30 p.m. in the ditch along Highway 17 a few kilometres from Neys Provincial Park near the Little Pic River bridge.
It also listed as “not under control” at last report.
The current forest fire hazard is “high” across most of the region and “extreme” in Sioux Lookout District.
