Three new fires were confirmed by yesterday afternoon in the Northwest Region—and more reports were coming in.
The new fires were in Woodland Caribou Park in Red Lake District.
There currently are 16 active fires in the region.
Most of these are “being monitored,” and those fires with FireRanger crews are reporting good progress.
Recent rainfall in the region has kept the forest fire hazard “low” in the central and southern sectors.
But it continues to stay “moderate to high” in the far north, with some areas forecast to have “extreme” fire hazards.
Large fires in the western provinces and the territories, meanwhile, may cause smoke to drift into Ontario.
Report forest fires by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
