Teen charged with murder


A 19-year-old Grassy Narrows First Nation male is charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon stemming from an incident there late Monday afternoon.
Toby Meeseewaypetung has been remanded into custody and will appear in court in Kenora tomorrow.
On Monday around 4:45 p.m., members of the Treaty #3 Police Service were called to a report of an altercation which had occurred at a residence in the Grassy Narrows First Nation, about 140 km north of Kenora.
The male victim was identified as Kiefer Meeseewaypetung, 22, of Grassy Narrows First Nation.
A post-mortem examination took place in Kenora on Tuesday, with the results pending.
At the request of the Treaty #3 Police Service, the OPP’s North West Region Crime Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, under the direction of Det. Insp. Peter Loree, was called in to assist in this investigation.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
