Tbaytel rebrands wireless network

Press Release

Effective June 3, Tbaytel has rebranded its 3G HSPA+ Network and now will refer to it as a 4G HSPA Network.
On Dec. 6, 2010, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an organization that defines network classifications within the telecommunications industry, expanded the definition of a 4G wireless mobile network.
The ITU initially had a very narrow definition for 4G networks but, in December, expanded it to now include HSPA+ networks like Tbaytel’s.
“Other carriers within the mobility industry with networks similar to Tbaytel have chosen to refer to their respective networks as 4G,” said Don Campbell, president and CEO of Tbaytel.
“In order for consumers to accurately compare Tbaytel’s network to those of other carriers, it is important for Tbaytel to follow suit and rename its network accordingly.
“This reclassification will have no impact on the customer experience,” he stressed.
