Tbaytel for Good seeks nominations from community

The Tbaytel for Good Community Fund provides financial support to schools, community groups, not-for-profit organizations, and charities whose activities match Tbaytel’s own priorities.

As a part of the fund, Tbaytel announced Monday that it will again award three $10,000 grants this year.

“We’re so excited to see what amazing ideas are out there to make northern Ontario a better place,” said Tbaytel communication co-ordinator Jamie Smith. “We saw in 2021 when the grant funding was increased to $10,000 that it can really be a game-changer for people and organizations in our region.”

A Tbaytel press release says the fund is designed to be inclusive — supporting initiatives of all different scopes.

“We support inspiring projects that build strong and healthy communities across northern Ontario,” the release said. “Since the community fund was first established in 2013, Tbaytel for Good has provided $276,342 in funding to support 93 unique community-based projects in 22 communities throughout northern Ontario.”

From August 8 until September 19 at 3 p.m. CST, Tbaytel is inviting community members to apply for funding of a deserving project, idea, or initiative.

Submissions can be for anything from equipment and supplies to the development of new client programming to creating safe and healthy spaces within the community.

Past winners have included funds for educational programming, community patrols, arts projects, and more.

The release says the submission process is easy, and requires a 60-second video along with a few questions to be considered.

Semi-finalists will be selected by a panel of community members and are to be announced on Thursday, Oct. 6. The winners will be determined by public voting, which will take place from Oct. 6 to 18. Winners of the three $10,000 grants will be announced Friday, Oct. 26.
