The Northwestern Health Unit has placed the beaches in both Emo and Rainy River under a swimming advisory as of yesterday due to high bacterial counts found during routine sampling.
Water quality tests yielded higher than acceptable E. coli bacteria levels.
High E. coli levels pose a possibly risk to bathers, including a variety of skin, eye, nose, and throat infections, as well as gastrointestinal illness.
Warning signs regarding the hazards of swimming at the beaches are being posted by the Northwestern Health Unit.
The beaches will remain posted until satisfactory results are obtained.
Local beaches are tested regularly from early June until the end of August.
