Swimmer goes missing in river

Around 7 p.m. yesterday, Rainy River District OPP officers, the Emo Fire Department, and Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services responded to the report of a missing 27-year-old male.
Emergency personnel were called to assist after two males tried to swim out into the Rainy River and return back to the Emo public docks—a distance of about 200 feet.
One male made it but the second man went under the water and failed to surface.
Police have conducted a shoreline search of the area.
OPP marine officers are continuing to patrol the area with the assistance of the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Department.
As well, the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery is responding to assist with the investigation.
The name of the missing man is not being released at this time.
