The decorations and photographs were up at the Emo Legion last Friday evening for the Centennial Country Sweetheart Dance.
The Norlund Funtimers, featuring Elmer and Teresa Norlund and Evelyn Whalen, along with guest players Vince Sheppard and Romeo Duguay, provided the music that kept the dance floor busy all night.
Town Crier Doug Hodge gave the welcome address to more than the 160 people on hand, paying tribute to courtship and the gift of life we all enjoy today.
The butterfly, schottische, polka, old-time waltz, fox trot, jive, hokey pokey, spot dances, and the circle 2 (called by Neil VanDrunen) provided dancing for young and old alike.
Hodge later thanked the Funtimers for donating the music for the evening and for bringing back some fond memories.
Prizes went to Brandy Strachan, Darlene Fletcher, Irene Haver, and Shirley Hodge. The prize to the couple married the longest went to Laurens and Tina Visser, who have marked more than 60 years together.
The centennial song, “Where the Rainy River Flows” was sung, then a lunch was served to wind up an enchanting evening of fun for everyone.
