Surprise birthday party held

A surprise 60th birthday party for Alton Cates was held at Off Lake Church after the service on Sunday (April 3).
Siblings Elmer, Carl, and Margaret were in attendance, along with relatives and friends from Fort Frances.
Tom and Jane Graham came from Prince Albert, Sask. for the occasion. Tom was one of several speakers who honoured Alton.
The ladies served a beautiful luncheon of sandwiches, dainties, and birthday cake.

Our Lady of the Way C.W.L.’s spring tea and bake sale will be held this Saturday (April 9) at O.L.O.W. School in Stratton from 1:30-3 p.m.
Donations for the bake table, crafts, and penny table would be greatly appreciated.

The Lake of the Woods Women’s Institutes annual meeting is coming up April 13, at 7 p.m. at OSTA Westberg’s home in Bergland.
Meanwhile, the district annual will be April 30 at the W.I. Museum in Emo.
Also at the museum on May 7 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., a spring tea with a luncheon, crafts, and bake sale.
The Burriss Branch of W.I. challenges all members to donate $100 each to the museum for the year.
A large yard sale in Emo is being planned for the museum on June 18. W.I. is looking for donations of items.

Seniors had a good time dancing to music by the Sindelirs last Friday at the Brink Center in Baudette. The Frontiersmen are scheduled to play there this Friday (April 8) from 7:30-10 p.m.
Emo Legion’s next dance, with Glenn, Bill, and Wayne, is slated for April 30.
