Sunrise Meats out of abattoir project Meeting set for Oct. 25

With the negotiations and business planning study with Sunrise Meat and Sausage completed, it has been determined Paul and Susan Peters are unable to proceed with a partnership agreement between them and the Rainy River District Regional Abattoir Inc.
But Steve Loshaw, president of the RRDRAI, is confident they will “still continue with other options on schedule.”
He indicated the group feels they can meet the goal of establishing an abattoir in the district in 2008.
The board of directors is exploring other options, which will be presented to the membership for approval and direction at the next general membership meeting slated for Oct. 25 at the Chapple Community Centre in Barwick.
In addition to working diligently to overcome certain challenges, the board of directors also accepted the resignation of Peter Spuzak on Sept. 26.
There have been no plans to fill his position on the board until the general election.
The board currently consists of Loshaw (president), Trish Neilson (vice-president), Bill Darby (secretary), Aarne Hahkala (treasurer), and directors Ken McKinnon, Dennis Brown, Clayton Teeple, and Todd McLean.
Loshaw also said the approval of funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. will be delayed until a new government is formed following the provincial election.
He added research and study continues on the project, especially in the areas of compost and environmental standards.
The membership meeting will begin at 7 p.m., at which time members will be further updated with more news on the abattoir project.
