It was standing room only in the gymnasium as Sturgeon Creek School staged its Christmas concert.
After Principal Jerry O’Leary welcomed parents, friends and neighbours, the senior and junior kindergarten classes, directed by Vicki Ogilvie, presented two selections–“Jingle Bells” (ringing those bells enthusiastically) and “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” (smiling all the while, of course).
The SK group later returned to do some line dancing to the tune of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
The grade ones, directed by May Ann Haw, presented a silent scene, “The Gift,” then they also did some line dancing to the tune of “The Macarena.”
Diane Carlson had the grades four/five tuned up in two French numbers, “D’ou Viens-Tu Bergere” and “Petit Garcon.” Then Cindy Bolen’s grade two/three class sang “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” complete with changing scenes on the screen thanks to a slide projector.
David Olgilvie then directed the grade four/five class in three selections, “Mary’s Lullaby,” “Just a Little Baby” and “Chocolate in My Stocking.”
The grades six, seven and eight students then took the stage for three numbers–“I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “Who Would Imagine a King” and “Sleigh Ride.”
But the highlight was the three-act play, “Ben Falls in Love,” directed by Norman Hyatt. The actors included Trevor Bonot (Santa), Jenni Stafford (Toots), Kevin Gemmell (Ben), Angela Brown (Jane), Susanne Brielmann (Edna), and Todd Michl (Mr. O’Leary).
Rounding out the cast were Travis Schram (Dr. Needle), Tom Gustafson (Mr. Everett/narrator), Sara Karchuk (Mrs. Swift), Jocelyn Dorie (Susie), Jason Landry (Jimmy), Amber Hayes (Sally), and Murray Gallinger (Jester).
The audience enjoyed every minute of this humorous play.
