Sturgeon Creek holds spring tea, concert

Sturgeon Creek held its annual spring tea and concert last Wednesday afternoon, with parents and friends filling the gym that had been decorated with posters relating to spring activities.
Students served the guests.
Principal Don McBride then welcomed the audience and wished everyone an enjoyable afternoon of music. Pianist Wayne Barron accompanied the choirs.
Emcee Katelyn Neilson introduced each number on the program, which included a few that had been performed by the students during the annual Festival of the Performing Arts last month in Fort Frances.
The Grades 1/2 gave a creative dance movement to gets things moving, then Mrs. Ogilvie’s JK and SK students presented “Colours” and “My Little Puppy.”
Mrs. Haw’s Grade 1/2 then sang “Whiskers” and “Zip a Dee Doo Dah,” before David Ogilvie’s Grade 6-8 choir presented, “A New Tomorrow” and “Let’s Sing a Song.”
The Grades 1/2 came back to recite a poem entitled “Eat It! It’s Good for You.”
The Grade 4/5 recorder class, directed by Dave Ogilvie, then played the tune, “Turn on the Sun,” which was quite appropriate given the unspringlike weather the district has faced of late.
Miss Main’s Grade 2/3 provided a choral reading, “Dinner Time Rhyme,” then the Grades 1/2 were back once again with polka dance co-ordinated by Mrs. Haw.
Piano solos were presented by Kalli Fuhrer (“The Mermaid”), Jay Neilson “Light and Blue” and “The Bare Necessities), Matt Sharpe (“Freight Train”), and Katelyn Neilson (“Fandango” and “Cruella de Ville”).
It was a fabulous afternoon of entertainment that was enjoyed by everyone. The students always provide entertaining programs that are definitely worthwhile.
