With June comes the “Strawberry Social.”

Conveners Shirley Scofield and Linda Booth have preparations well underway. The freezers are ready for the takeout sales.

Cake, strawberries and ice cream are ordered and sub-conveners are in place for the event which will be held on the hospital grounds.

Come out and support the auxiliary next Thursday (June 13) from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

If raining, the event will move indoors.

For take-out orders, contact Helen Pattison at 274-6673. Donations of baking, plants, rhubarb, and books (no textbooks) can be dropped off the morning of June 13.

To celebrate the “Strawberry Social,” the gift shop is giving away a gift basket. Entry slips are available at the ticket booth and must be brought to the gift shop to enter.

This is a wonderful time to come into the shop to check out the new “Pop Up Shops.” June brings local artisans Kris Krag with “Once Upon a Spoon”; Tammy Lamb of “Mamma T’s” with quilted purses, bags and wallets; and Nicole Lowey from “Glass House Studios” with stained and fused glass pieces.

This will be the last chance to purchase quilt raffle tickets as the draw will be done at the end of the social.

Don’t forget the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary’s quarterly luncheon and AGM on Monday (June 10) at 11:30 a.m. at McMillan Hall in Knox United Church.

Convener Diane Glowasky advises tickets will be available at the hospital gift shop, Pharmasave, and Shoppers Drug Mart until 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, June 7)

Cost is $15 each. Sorry, there will be no late sales. See you there.

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce there are two $1,000 bursary winners this year.

Recipients will be announced at the high school graduation ceremony later this month (June 27).
“Rockin’ for a Reason” conveners Dixie Badiuk and Helen Cone would like to thank all members who took pledge sheets and all those who made donations.

This year the event brought in over $10,000. Thank you to Dixie and Helen for another successful event.

The Nomination Committee is still in need of a vice-president and a director for advertising and promotion.

If members are interested, please volunteer at the AGM or call Irene Laing at 274-9560, Judy Webster at 274-3190 or Shirley Scofield at 274-2327.

Membership director Marnie Cumming announced the auxiliary has 234 paid members, plus 16 Rainycrest members. This year, we have seen an increase of 22 new members.

Memberships for 2019-2020 will be due as of September 2019 and are available in the gift shop.
Riverside Foundation director Allison Cox advised that sales for the Foundation’s Canada Day Cash Lottery are going well.

The Foundation will be setting up a booth and BBQ at the Rainy Lake Market Square on June 27.

At this time, president Judy Webster and the executive would like to thank all members for participating and volunteering at auxiliary events. Have a safe and happy summer. See you in the fall.
