‘Strawberry Social’ deemed success

Dave Ogilvie

The Emo Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who attended their annual “Strawberry Social,” which was held on Friday in the cafeteria at the Emo Health Centre, and all those who assisted by baking, setting up and serving.
About 140 people attended, including residents of the Golden Age Manor.
The auxiliary made $567, which included picture tickets sold at the social, four memberships, and some individual donations.
A draw on the painted pictures donated by A. Hakkarainen (a resident in long-erm care at the Emo Health Centre) was held, with the top prize going Marilyn McDonald of Emo.
The second painting was won by Connie Sinclair of Fort Frances.
The money raised from this annual event will go towards the CR reader/upgraded X-ray equipment at the Emo Health Centre.

The “Show and Shine” car show held Saturday at Norlund’s in Emo was a huge success, with nearly 40 cars from across the district and beyond on display.
The weather was perfect as a large crowd turned out to admire the fantastic vehicles and to talk to the owners.
Spectators were given ballots to vote for their favourite vehicles.
The awards for the best vehicles in the various categories were as follows: Best Chevy—Ed Kennedy 1957 Chevrolet; Best Ford—Ed Halvorsen 1930 Model A; Best Mopar—Herb Snow 1956 Custom Royal; Mayor’s Choice—Ron Deschamps 1955 Chevrolet; and the People’s Choice—Kevin Hughes 1970 Chevelle, Ron Hughes 1937 Chevrolet, and Ron Deschamps 1955 Chevrolet.
Those on hand also enjoyed hotdogs and hamburgers, purchased a souvenir T-shirt, and visited with friends while checking out the cars and trucks.
