‘Strawberry Social’ a success

This year’s “Strawberry Social” hosted by the Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary was deemed a success by those on hand.
The hospital cafeteria indeed was a busy place as people from across the district came out for some strawberry shortcake and tea/coffee, as well as to visit with friends they hadn’t seen in a while.
Funds raised from this annual event will go to the auxiliary’s projects and the support of our local hospital.
Thanks to everyone who came out. The auxiliary always is appreciative of the support it receives from the public.

The next “Country Jam” at the Emo Legion will be held this Friday (June 22).
Come out and bring a friend for an evening of good, ol’ country music, dancing, and socializing.
For only $2, you can have a great time and dance the evening away. The bar will be open and snacks can be purchased from the kitchen.
New musicians also always are welcome. Just bring your own electronic gear and be prepared to start playing around 7 p.m.

A come-and-go tea in honour of Rev. Barb Miller’s retirement will be held this Saturday (June 23) from 1-3 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Good wishes only!
Come out and thank Barb for her many years of service to the people of the district.

Stock car racing at the Emo Speedway was cancelled this past Saturday due to several rainy days.
Races are slated to resume this Saturday, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting).
Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors (those nine and under are free).

The Emo and District Lions Club celebrated the arrival of spring with a barbecue in the rain this past Saturday at the Lions Park in Emo.
Despite the thunder and lightning and a steady downpour, club members and guests enjoyed hotdogs, hamburgers, and a fantastic array of pot-luck dishes.
Plans already are underway for the fall meetings and it’s hoped a few more people will join the club.
Members will be approaching people during the summer months with a personal invitation to join in the fun and fundraising of an energetic and enthusiastic group of volunteers.
