Stratton Seniors plan Christmas dinner

The Stratton Seniors welcome all seniors (50 plus) to their annual Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Millennium Hall. Tickets cost $13 each, and entertainment/music will be provided by Highway 621.
For tickets, call Juliet Smith (483-5303) or Mary Vandenbrand (483-5590) by Dec. 1.
Also, a luncheon is planned Nov. 20 at the seniors’ centre, served by the Mennonite ladies, followed by school children singing and then a cribbage tournament.
Christmas dinner tickets will be available at this time.

A Women’s Institute tea will be held Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Emo Museum. There will be crafts, a bake table, and a penny table, as well as draws. The W.I. quilt also will be raffled off.
Come for the luncheon of soup, sandwiches, and dainties.

There was a good turnout at the Brink Center in Baudette for dancing last Friday. The next dance there is this Friday (Nov. 14) from 7-9:30 p.m., featuring Kelly’s old-time band.
Sindelir’s Band will perform there Nov. 21, then the Frontiersmen will take the stage Nov. 28.
The next dance at the Emo Legion is slated for Saturday, Nov. 22.

We are so fortunate to have the Rainy River Community Choir, conducted by Stephanie Hawkins. This is their 10th anniversary and in celebration, the 40-member choir will be performing favourites of the past.
The first concert is slated Dec. 2 at Our Lady of the Way in Pinewood, with a second set for Dec. 5 at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Other concerts are planned at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in International Falls (Dec. 9) and at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Rainy River (Dec. 12).
All four concerts will start at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the ones in this district is $12 for adults and $4 for students.

The Catholic Women’s League will hold its Christmas tea and bazaar Saturday, Nov. 29 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Way School.

Trish and Collen Neilson and boys have returned from a week’s holiday around Ottawa with her parents, James and Dorothy Lloyd, and other relatives.
Although the weather was wet, they took the boys to a Playland with 350 kids! Mom says it was better after the crowd left.

Clark Neilson had lunch with his sister and brother-in-law, LaVaune and Mel Shrum of International Falls, at the old home place last week while they were checking and winterizing it.

Merve and Gerry Brown had family visit a few days last week, including John Boudreau, Allen Swain, and Willie Cheslock.

A reminder a Christmas craft sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Bergland Hall.

Matt Neilson was in Apple Valley, Mn. a week ago running in cross-country Junior Olympics. He’s orking to stay in shape for the start of the track season in March.
