On Saturday around 3:25 a.m., the Kenora Police Service received a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence in the north end of the city.
Officers responded and found the residence had been broken into. The culprit(s) had forced their way into the residence by forcing open an east side door.
Officers entered the residence and located an empty gun cabinet.
A phone call was placed to the owner of the residence, who was away in Alberta. The owner confirmed he had six firearms in the gun cabinet.
The officers could not determine if anything else was stolen.
The stolen firearms included three 12-gauge shotguns, 1 .308 calibre rifle, one .22 calibre rifle, and one 20-gauge shotgun.
The around 4 p.m., the Kenora Police Service received a phone call from a resident in the same neighbourhood as the house that was broken into.
The caller reported to police that they had been out walking their dog in the area of the Ukrainian Church. The caller observed several firearms wrapped in a blanket in a yard just west of the church.
The resident walked home and called police.
Members of the Kenora Police Service went to the area described by the caller and recovered all the firearms stolen in the break and enter.
The investigation into the break and enter is continuing.
