A Couchiching First Nation man is in custody after a standoff that closed Highway 11 east of Fort Frances for almost 11 hours.
The Treaty #3 Police Service, with the assistance of the Rainy River District OPP, responded to a report of a barricaded male inside a Couchiching residence just before 12:45 p.m. yesterday.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers established a secure perimeter around the area of the residence to ensure the safety of the public and the responding officers.
As a result, Highway 11 was closed by mid-afternoon.
Police remained on scene for the duration of the incident, with the support of the OPP’s North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Fort Frances OPP Crime Unit, and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).
Around 1:30 a.m. today, the barricaded male exited his residence and was taken into custody without incident.
The Treaty #3 Police is continuing the investigation.
