St. Patrick’s CWL held another successful spring tea at the Parish Hall on Saturday afternoon. There was a penny table with useful articles, as well as a bake table loaded with homemade pies, pastry, and bread (at the end of the day, only a few items were left!)
Heather Oltsher, Bernice Campbell, and Francis Gibbens worked the kitchen area while servers included Mary Curtis, Christine Schulzki, Sonja Schulzki, Chantelle Bragg, and Chartier Wilson.
Jo Bragg and Bonnie Wilson supervised the bake section, Marg Hendrikx waited on patrons at the penny table, while Bridgette Schulzki and Jan Hyatt directed traffic at the craft table.
Denise Donaldson and Natalie Donaldson managed the religious items while Chris Hartry was the ticket guardian. Joyce Wilson, Rose Schulzki, and CWL president Mary Jordens welcomed and registered guests on arrival.

The Emo Toy Lending Resource Centre thanks everyone who participated in the Hop-A-Thon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.
“The donations that were collected will help support client services, education, and research programs for the thousands of Canadians living with neuro-muscular disorders,” noted ETL co-ordinator Josette Vargas.
Your child is “Some Bunny Special” because they hopped for those who cannot, she added.
The ETL also held its Mother’s Day draw Saturday afternoon for a gold watch from Brockie’s Jewellers in Fort Frances. The winner was Vickey Labbe.
Second prize (a spa package from the Hair and Body Care Shoppe in Emo) went to Carla Rittau.
Vargas thanked all those who bought tickets in support of the ETL, and offered her congratulations to the lucky winners.

Ana Hendrikx came to the Emo Inn to introduce her Mother’s Day gift–a newborn son, Timothy Casey, who arrived at La Verendrye hospital in Fort Frances on April 30 weighing 8 lbs., 8 oz.
Ana is our waitress at the Emo Inn although it will be a while before she comes back since she is on maternity leave. But it was nice of her to drop by and show off her pride.

We extend sympathy to the families of Helene Hochuli, who passed away Tuesday, May 1. Funeral services were held Monday, May 6 from the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rainy River.
Helen and Vivian Smith were inseparable; wherever Vivian went, you were sure Helen was nearby. I have known these two ladies from attending church functions and they hardly missed Christian-related programs.
It was always nice to see them out to Off Lake Covenant Church suppers and special services, where we would reminisce about local happenings.

Sunday was Cadet Day at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo as the boys and staff members participated in the morning worship service. They ushered, picked up the offering, read the scripture, and recited the Cadet Week litany.
The hymn, “Living for Jesus,” was suitable for Cadet Day as this is what the Cadets try to promote.
The Calvinist Cadet Corps is a ministry that brings Christian men into the lives of boys, helping them grow in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men (Luke 2:52).
There is still a wind-up event for the Cadets, which is being planned to finalize the program for another year. There were 20 boys taking park in four groups.
