‘Spring Fever Days’ another successful hit

Thousands of residents from across the district once again made the trip to Emo for its annual “Spring Fever Days” held Thursday to Saturday.
Emo Chamber of Commerce president and organizer Dave Goodman said the event was a great success and noted the village was exceptionally busy over the three days.
“Spring Fever Days” is one of Emo’s biggest economic boosters and really puts it on the map, Goodman remarked.
“It’s just a chance for people to refresh their memory as to what they can get in the town,” he explained.
“It is pretty much a full-service community.”
Steve Loshaw of Rainy River Meats told the Times they had a great turnout for “Spring Fever Days.”
Their barbecue pretty much sold out and the business saw a sizeable increase in the number of customers who walked through the door, he noted.
Loshaw attributed a large part of this year’s success to the warm weather the district enjoyed all last week.
He finds that “Spring Fever Days” brings the whole district together, and is becoming more like the Emo Fair in August in the way it connects the community.
Princecraft business development manager Pat Costello, meanwhile, spoke to those who dropped by the Nestor Falls Marina boat show held at the Emo Arena.
He said “Spring Fever Days” is the perfect name for the event because people always are ready to go, get out, and enjoy the end of winter.
He also credited warm temperatures for the event’s success.
Joanna Hasiuk of Emo Drugs enjoyed the increase in business at that store.
“It’s been busy,” she enthused, noting many “Spring Fever Day” attendees popped by Emo Drugs for its in-store specials and sales.
The Emo Legion also was the place to be last week, with booths and vendors selling a diverse range of products over the weekend.
Stacy Kreger of the Hair and Body Care Shoppe also had only good things to say about this year’s “Spring Fever Days.”
“It’s been good,” she said. “The streets are busy, we’ve been busy in here, and it’s nice to see everyone’s happy with the sun out.”
The Hair and Body Shoppe’s annual “Cuts for Cancer” fundraiser managed to garner close to $3,000 that will go to the Tamarack House in Thunder Bay.
It provides affordable accommodations to those undergoing cancer treatment, as well as their families.
The “Cuts for Cancer” fundraiser has been going for 20 years and has raised more than $50,000 for the Tamarack House during that span.
Finally, “Spring Fever Days” was an exceptionally good time for Nicole Wall, who won the top prize of $500 in “Emo bucks” in the draw made Saturday at Degagne Equipment.
Doreen Thompson and Thais Heyens also had smiles on their faces after winning $250 in gift certificates each in draws held at Norlund Oil and Rejuvenate Fitness, respectively.
Goodman thanked all his fellow Chamber of Commerce members who helped organize “Spring Fever Days,” the businesses that participated, and all the district residents who came out.
He said he’s already looking forward to the next year’s “Spring Fever Days.”
