The early-birds no doubt already are getting their rods, lures, and the rest of their fishing gear ready for a springtime fishing extravaganza.
The initial registration deadline for the second-annual Emo Walleye Classic coming up May 30-31 on the Rainy River was last Friday, with tournament spokesperson Colleen Vennechenko saying about 45 of the 60 available spots have been spoken for.
“Anyone in now is guaranteed to be in it, and anyone else coming after will get in on a first-come, first-serve basis until we reach our maximum,” Vennechenko noted.
“We had the initial deadline for the 2002 tournament on March 15 of this year, but we decided to move up the deadline this time to give us more time to get organized and to know where we stood,” she added.
If all 60 spots are filled, a total purse of $36,000 will be up for grabs.
The tournament costs $600 per team to enter. Those wanting more information or to register can contact Vennechenko (482-1811) or Dale Hartlin (482-3093).
