Sha Sha burns down

Sha Sha Resort east of International Falls—a popular summer destination for residents on both sides of the border—was destroyed by fire early this morning.
The cause of the blaze remained unknown as of press time today.
“It burned to the ground,” said Jim Hultman, a firefighter engineer with the International Falls Fire Department.
“On our arrival on the scene, the only thing standing was the kitchen area,” he added.
The 9-1-1 call came in just after 2:30 a.m.
Firefighters were able to save the cabins, as well as new outdoor barbecues and the extensive deck.
“We don’t know what caused it but it appears to have started in the northeast corner,” Hultman said, adding the sheriff’s office would be investigating the cause in the coming days.
Firefighters, including the Camp Koochiching fire boat and Department of Natural Resources personnel, were on the scene for five hours.
DNR personnel were on hand because the fire spread to nearby trees, although it was contained to the main building and the immediate area.
