Kenora OPP was contacted Jan. 12 regarding the discovery of sexually-explicit photographs of a 17-year-old girl on an electronic device.
A subsequent investigation involving members of the Kenora OPP Crime Unit resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Kenora.
An investigation revealed the male had distributed the photograph.
The youth has been charged with distribution of child pornography and is to appear in court in Kenora on Jan. 28.
He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
“Sexting” refers to the sending of sexually-related text or images from one mobile device to another.
The creation and sending of nude photographs of anyone under the age of 18 is considered child pornography, and is illegal under the Criminal Code of Canada.
