Continued hot, dry weather is setting the stage for multiple fire starts each day as lightning strikes from earlier storms continue to pop up as blazes, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
Eleven new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by early evening yesterday.
Among these were four located in the eastern portion of Fort Frances District. These include two new fires in Quetico Provincial Park, for a total of six now burning in that area.
As well, Fort Frances Fire #40 is a 0.1-hectare blaze located east of Marmion Lake while Fort Frances Fire #41 is a lightning-caused 0.5-ha blaze east of Crane Lake.
There were 44 active fires in the region as of this morning but that number will rise as new fires are reported.
These include a total of eight in Fort Frances District and three in Kenora District.
The forest fire hazard is “high” across the entire region and several days of summer-like weather are forecast to keep it high, with some “extreme” hazard areas.
