Several local residents arrested on drug charges

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On July 19, 2020 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Fort Frances Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Portage Avenue in Fort Frances. Officers were looking to speak with the male driver in regards to an earlier occurrence.
A further investigation during the stop lead to officers locating and seizing a quantity of suspected fentanyl, Canadian currency and drug related paraphernalia.
As a result, a 35-year-old Fort Frances man, a 38-year-old woman of Rainy River First Nation, and a 24-year-old man of Nicickousemenecaning, have been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- other drug and Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
Two of the individuals have been released on an Undertaking to appear in court the August 17, 2020, in Fort Frances. The 35-year-old man remained in custody and was to appear in bail court today.
On July 2, members of the Dryden OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17, Wainwright Township (West of Dryden) for a Highway Traffic Act offence.
Further investigation lead to officers locating and seizing a quantity of fentanyl, methamphetamine, prohibited devices, Canadian currency and drug related paraphernalia.
A 33-year-old man and 39-year-old woman, both of Fort Frances, now face charges of: Traffic in Schedule I substance- methamphetamine, Traffic in Schedule I substance- other drugs, two counts of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- other drugs, three counts Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose and Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
