Seven new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The new fires were both person and lightning-caused, and required aggressive initial attack by firefighters to contain.
The largest fire currently burning in the region is Kenora Fire #41. It started on the afternoon of Aug. 1 and quickly grew in size and intensity, being pushed by strong winds and very dry conditions.
The fire is located about 65 km southeast of Kenora and is roughly 200 hectares in size.
Forty FireRangers currently are working hard to establish hoselines on the fire in an effort to limit its spread and bring it under control.
Hot and dry weather conditions throughout much of the province have elevated the fire danger rating in many areas to “high to extreme,” and there is increased risk of human-caused wildfires.
Campers should keep campfires small and ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving the site. Anglers could consider using a portable gas stove to cook shore lunches rather than a campfire
Campfires must never be left unattended.
In addition, people should check with the local municipality about other restrictions and guidelines.
