Donald Young School’s annual musical is set to go!
The cast and crew of “Seussical the Musical” will be staging three performances for the general public starting next Wednesday-Friday (Feb. 25-27) at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for children.
The students, under the direction of Katherine Williams, have been working extremely hard for the past few weeks and by all accounts, this year’s performance will be as good, if not better, than their previous musicals.
All three no doubt will be well-attended, so plan on arriving well before 7 p.m.

This month’s men’s breakfast will be held this Saturday (Feb. 21) starting at 8 a.m. at the Emo Legion.
The $10 buffet will feature Wayne Toews as guest speaker. Though he likely would consider Vermilion Bay his home town, Toews has spent nine years in India and also about the same amount of time in England. Much of that time he served with a mission known as “Operation Mobilization.”
Wayne is hoping to bring a few other friends along with him so come, enjoy, and be blest as he shares his heart with those in attendance.

A special “Heritage Day” lunch will be held this Friday (Feb. 20) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo.
Costing $8, the lunch will include ham, various hot dishes, salads, buns, and desserts. There also will be craft and bake sale tables.
Proceeds from the lunch will go towards the Rainy River District Women’s Institute museum in Emo.

The Nestor Falls recreation committee is very proud to be bringing you the 27th-annual winter carnival on Feb. 27-March 1!
Kicking off this year’s event will be an amazing concert featuring Adam T. Elvis—the #1 Elvis impersonator in Manitoba—next Friday (Feb. 27). Adam’s bang-on impersonation, accompanied by his great band (the Good Rockin’ Tonight Band), is not to be missed!
Tickets cost $20 each, and are available in advance only at Dalseg’s Fine Foods and Monique’s Log Cabin, or by calling Kiley Hanson at 484-2615.
Only 150 seats are be available so be sure to get your tickets soon!

St.George’s food cupboard in Emo is extremely low on most items. Needed are food donations such as pancake mix, syrup, oatmeal, Red River cereal, corn meal, dry cereals, coffee, tea bags, canned tuna and salmon, milk powder, evaporated milk, 2% and whole milk, infant formula, baby food (vegetables & fruit), ketchup, salad dressing, Cheez Whiz, peanut butter, and jam.
If you would like to make a donation, the food bank is open on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Or feel free to contact any of the churches in Emo.

The second “Country Jam,” which was held at the Emo Legion last Friday (Feb. 13) was deemed a success by the organizers. A group of about 15 musicians from across the district entertained an appreciative audience.
The lively music, which varied from simple rock-and-roll to folk to classic country, had people tapping their toes, singing along, and dancing to their favourite songs.
The musicians, ranging in age from 10 to their mid-70s, were Emily Smith (accordian), Bob Brown (harmonica), John Reader (folk guitar), Thomas Gustafson and Richard Socholotuk (bass guitar), Dr. George Elliott (violin), Maurice Betournay (drums), Morris Halvorson (lead guitar), Bob Wepruk, Edith Haw, Patti Brown, and Charleen Gustafson (guitar), and two brave students, Jamie Fiset and Jeremy Haw, on guitar.
The musicians would like to thank the Emo Legion for their assistance and everyone who attended.
For those in the audience who felt they needed something to eat, snacks will be provided at the next “Country Jam.”

More than 100 people from across the district attended the fundraising tea for Pastor Conrad Dueck and family on Sunday afternoon at the Emo Legion. The Duecks lost their home and all of their possessions in a tragic fire, which happened in sub-zero weather back on Jan. 27.
The tea, which was organized as a fundraiser for the family, quickly turned into a thank-you from the Duecks to the entire district.
Two of the children opened the afternoon by playing some pieces on the piano. Pastor Dueck then presented a slide show which included dramatic pictures of their home before, during, and after the devastating fire.
He also explained to everyone how God has blessed his family with the love and generosity of so many people across the district.
The money collected at the door, to pay for the light lunch, was donated to the family by the Emo Legion. Other donations and cards also were given to the family.
Pastor Conrad, as he is known to many, his wife, Lois, and their children would like to express their gratitude to each and every person, community group, and church congregation that have given them so much and helped them cope during their time of need.
At the end of the tea, each person who attended was given a small memento of the occasion: a cross-stitched cross which contained a Bible verse and a personal thank you from the Duecks.
