Seniors’ Christmas supper a big hit

The annual seniors’ Christmas supper sponsored by the Emo Legion Br. #99 was a huge success last Saturday as 155 sit-down meals were served as well as 67 take-outs.
The kitchen helpers included the fair queen candidates who could make it, Jane Allan and her husband, Gerry, Josette Vargas, Joyce Meyers, Adelia Guba, Cheryl Curtis, Donna Haglin, Sadie Smith, Louis Shine, and Tanya Smith.
The drivers were Frank Curis and Lyle Gill.
The hall was decorated with a medium-sized Christmas tree, floral placemats and serviettes, with a bowl of candles lit as centrepieces. Wreaths adorned the walls while poinsettias sat on corner shelves.
No gifts were handed out as in past years. Instead, the musical group “Highway 621,” including Bob Johnson, Gerald Fisk, Fred Brett, Ruth Brett, and Leonard Larsen, supplied the entertainment of old-time tunes mixed in with some religious selections and Christmas songs.
The music started at 3 p.m. and ran until supper time as the group also entertained at the Golden Age Manor.
The group plays most any instruments, even jingle bells, and sings like Santa (“Ho! Ho! Ho!”) The atmosphere was joyful as the Christmas spirit flowed through everyone’s veins.
I asked one band member how they became known as Highway 621? He replied, “Because we live along the route.”
