The next meeting of the Donald Young School pupil accommodation review committee will take place there tomorrow (Jan. 12) from 7-9 p.m.
If you have something to add to the discussion, or just would like to receive an update on what may happen to our local school, plan on attending.
One of the factors being investigated is “value of the school to the community.”
The review committee would like to hear from everyone who has a stake in the ultimate decision. Written submission from concerned citizens also will be accepted.
Your presence at this meeting will show the review committee and the local public school board how much we value DYS!

The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s fair board held its annual meeting last Wednesday to elect officers for 2012.
Harold Kellar was elected president, with Angela Fiset as first vice-president and Robin Payeur as second vice-president.

The second-annual Emo and District Lions Club’s “Robbie Burns” supper will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Emo Legion.
It begins with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by the roast beef supper at 7.
Tickets, which are limited to 156, are $25 each, which can be purchased at Cloverleaf in Emo and Dr. Lidkea’s office in Fort Frances, as well as from Lions Club members.
The evening will feature the traditional “Toast to the Haggis,” along with some poetry written by Burns, a memorial to the famous poet, a Scottish dancing demonstration, and some dinner music.
Samples of haggis will be available for those who wish a wee taste of Scotland.
Be sure to purchase your tickets soon because last year’s celebration was extremely popular with everyone who attended.

Representatives of the Emo and District Lions Club will be attending the region’s mid-winter convention in Grand Rapids, Mn.
Clubs from across Northwestern Ontario and northern Minnesota have been asked to bring used eye-glasses and hearing aids to the convention.
They will be reconditioned and then sent to developing countries for people who are in need.
Glasses and hearing aids can be dropped off at the Emo Inn or the Emo Clinic.
Please help the Emo and District Lions contribute to this worthwhile cause by dropping off your donations before the end of January.

Congratulations to the winners of the annual “Beautiful Baby Contest,” sponsored by the Emo Chamber of Commerce, which ran from “Holly Daze” until Dec. 24 at Meyers Clothing.
First place went to Bailey Sheppard, followed by Bryn Libiak in second and Fletcher Evans in third.
A total of $396.62 was raised, with proceeds going to the Emo Toy Library.
