Word last week of a “suspicious” object in Sand Bay, which prompted police to cordon off an area of Pither’s Point and call in a provincial dive team, turned out to be a false alarm, Fort Frances OPP reported Friday afternoon.
Last Wednesday evening, a pair of local residents fishing from the shore near the VanJura baseball diamond reported they had hooked a suspicious item and called police, police said.
The area was cordoned off Thursday morning.
The local crime unit investigated the tip, and a dive team was brought in from Orillia to scour the water, but the search turned up nothing.
The investigation is now closed, police said.
