The OPP has suspended the search for 41-year-old Ear Falls resident Geoff McClain at the site where his truck was first located on Saturday.
Since that time, an air, ground, and vessel search of the English River area, 13 km southwest of Ear Falls, has turned up nothing.
OPP divers attended the scene yesterday and assessed the conditions.
Communication between divers, officers in charge, and the manager of Ontario Power Generation and its stakeholders resulted in the decision to suspend diving activities of the area.
The decision was made with the safety of the divers and other users of the waterway system in mind.
The OPG also was in a position where water levels and ice tables could not be compromised for the period of time needed by the divers to carry out their search.
A future search of the area will be re-assessed once there is a change in the water and ice conditions.
McClain is a former mayor of Ear Falls and provincial Liberal candidate for the Kenora-Rainy River riding.
