Two local Sea Cadets will be travelling to Europe this spring as part of their program.
They will be studying and touring various aspects of the town where they will be staying.
To be eligible for this trip, each cadet had to meet certain criteria and also write an essay.
These trips are not funded by the Department of National Defence. As such, the 144 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (Fort Frances) will be doing some major fundraising for them.
Leading Seaman Chelsea Barron and Leading Seaman Larissa McKelvie also will be personally involved in raising money for their trip.
As of right now, they have roughly one-third of the money necessary to send them on this trip-of-a-lifetime.
If you are interested in helping, send a cheque/money order made out to the Emo Branch of the Navy League, which then can be mailed to the 144 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (Fort Frances), RR#1 RMB 171, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M2.
You also can pick up a sponsor sheet and get your family and friends to donate to this worthy cause. Tax receipts will be issued for any donations over $20.
The cadets also have set up a Regal fundraiser through Angel Low. If you would like to place an order, give Angel a call.
A portion of sales will be given to the two cadets to help pay for their trip.

Don’t forget the Voyageur Lions Club’s annual “Polar Plunge,” which will take place New Year’s Day starting at 1 p.m. on Sand Bay behind La Place Rendez-Vous in Fort Frances.
Kent and Joanne Ogden, along with Dennis Ogilvie, will be jumping for the Emo and District Lions Club. Please consider giving them a donation.
One hundred percent of the money raised by our local Lions will go towards local projects.
Other groups, such as hockey teams and school clubs, are invited to join, with nearly 50 percent of money collected returned back to the club or team.

The next meeting of the Donald Young School Pupil Accommodation Review committee will take place there on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 7-9 p.m.
If you have something to add to the discussion, or just would like to receive an update on what may happen to our local school, mark this date on your calendar as soon as possible.
One of the factors being investigated is “value of the school to the community.”
The review committee would like to hear from everyone who has a stake in the ultimate decision so please consider attending. Written submission from citizens also will be accepted.
Your presence at this meeting will show the review committee and the local public school board how much we value DYS!
