School holds graduation ceremony

Last Wednesday (June 20) was the last day of school for students at Mine Centre School. At 1 p.m., friends, family, staff, and students gathered in the gym for the senior kindergarten to grade seven graduation.
The first presentation was made by Mrs. Dennis as she presented each student from her SK class with a scrapbook of the year (including their kindergarten diploma) and a story book to practise reading over the summer.
The other classroom teachers then came forward to present Most Improved awards to Keira Allan, Summer Jim, Victoria Whitecrow, Andy Kingbird, Chris Cupp, and Troy Kingbird (grades one-six respectively).
Best All-Round medals then were awarded to Brent Stewart, Tashina Yeboah, and Jasmine Kabatay (three-way tie for grade one); Kristin Allan, Natasha Whitecrow, Kurtis Gustafson, Caitlin Johnson, Gerald Morrison and Brittany McKid (grades two-seven respectively).
Master of Ceremonies then called upon Native Language teachers Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Boshkaykin to award certificates for students who showed an improvement or excelled in Native Language.
Mrs. Hyatt and Mrs. Kielczewski then were called upon to present the Kielczewski Memorial Award to grade three student Brent George and grade five student Caitlin Johnson.
The grade eight graduation was held on the evening of June 14. All the graduates were presented with a medicine wheel from Mrs. Boshkaykin and 7/8 teacher Miss Fafard.
Best Athlete was awarded to Rachel Kabatay, Most Improved student was Leon Johnson, the Best Artist award went to Angus Melrose, while the Jesse Friday Award was presented to Trisha Allan.
Valedictorian Alexandra Hyatt earned the Bud Martin Award.
